I've had this head unit for several years. When I bought it, I was happy with the performance -- my only problem with the unit has been the brightness of the display. Even when dimmed it is very bright. I've gotten around it by using the auto display off feature, but I'd prefer a solution that allows the screen to get much dimmer so I can see the screen without having it be such a driving distraction at night.
Where I've had real trouble, however, has been with iPhone compatibility. Whether this is really Apple's problem or Pioneer's is debatable, but in practice it doesn't really matter where the blame lies because the result is the same. My iPhone 3GS worked 100% with this head unit until iOS 3.2. At that point I lost the ability to get bluetooth audio from the phone to the stereo, though it continued to work in hands-free calling mode. It worked once after pairing, but as soon as either the phone or the stereo was turned off and on, it wouldn't work again without removing the pairing and reestablishing it.
Now, with iOS5 on an iPhone 4 (I've a developer account so I have early access to the next version of iOS), the ability to play music via the stereo is completely gone -- even by cable. The Pioneer display just says "No Songs" when I plug my iPhone in. Thankfully the hands-free calling functionality still works, though it has failed twice randomly for unexplained reasons.
Caveat emptor. It doesn't matter if Apple's iOS updates created bugs or just fixed ones that Pioneer was exploiting, the end result is the same - a current iPhone and the latest iOS is next to useless as a music source if you own an FH-P8000BT.
Edit - followup on August 1, 2011: With the latest beta of IOS 5, the Pioneer can now play music again via the cable at least, but only if you preselect the music you want to play on the phone and plug it in after it has started playing. If you plug the phone in before doing that, the head unit shows no songs. This is an improvement from the earlier IOS 5 betas, but still a step down from IOS 4.
