The unit was purchased to replace the Clarion Cd player that came with our Glastron DS215. Overall installation was easy with unit and 4 speaker replacement taking only a couple hours.
On our first trip out, we were very pleased with the performance of the Kenwood. It delivers crisp responsive sound with improved efficiency when coupled with the polk marine speakers we bought for this install. We wanted the convenience of ipod use and the Kenwood, with its hidden ipod compartment delivers, keeping our $300 unit safe from the elements. The only complaint with the Kenwood is, after adjusting all the brightness, contrast , negative/positive screen options and text styles available, it is still bloody hard to see the LCD screen which may be more an issue with the factory mount angle in the dash than the unit itself.
Overall we are very pleased with our new Kenwood deck and look forward to good times at the lake!

This is an amazing system. Front panel folds down so you can plug in your iPod and keep it safe & dry. Main electronics is separate and can be mounted in a dry location. Let me start positive first: the output power is excellent and the display is big for easy navigation. The fact that you can store your iPod or USB drive inside the unit without risk of damaging it, it's definitely a plus.
The quality of the unit and its components are excellent. I don't see this unit damage of sun/water affected in the long term.
Now, the unit is big and needs at least 7 in of depth for wherever you are mounting it. I had it installed in my boat yesterday and I had to do it in a very weird location where I almost can't see the display. I understand now why they sale the wire remote. I would recommend first checking if you have space available where you can install it and you'll feel comfortable operating the unit in that location. I don't feel comfortable with mine but nobody gave me heads up. I hope this works for you.
